# Do you know: What is Vedic Mathematics?

Can we be a human calculator? Calculating just in seconds or so! So yes it's possible, just we have to do is understand some basic tricks and analyse some patterns which would help in calculating within seconds. And this all comes under Vedic maths. So basically what is it? Vedic Mathematics is the name given to an ancient system of calculation which was "rediscovered" from the Vedas between 1911 and 1918 by Sri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji Maharaj (1884-1960). He is known as the Father of Vedic Mathematics.

Vedic Mathematics is a collection of Techniques/Sutras to solve mathematical arithmetics in an easy and faster way. It consists of 16 Sutras or Word Formulae and 13 sub-sutras (Sub Formulae) which can be used for solving mathematical problems involved in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, conics. It offers techniques and shortcuts to master numerical calculations in split seconds. Some Vedic Math Scholars mentioned that Using Vedic Maths tricks you can do calculations 10-15 times faster than our usual methods. The difficult problems or huge sums can be solved almost immediately by the Vedic method. There are just 16 sutras or word Formula which solve all known mathematical problems in the branches of Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. They are easy to understand, easy to apply and easy to remember. The system is wonderfully interrelated and unified. So simply we could say Vedic Maths is world's fastest mental maths system which helps in calculating more faster than the usual mathematics Some of its basic benefits are - 1500% faster than normal maths - Healthy for the mind as it Sharpens your mind, increases mental agility and intelligence. - Eradicates fear of Maths completely. - Cultivates an Interest in you for numbers, and we enjoy doing calculations. - Most importantly increases speed and accuracy. - Helps in becoming a human calculator.

Let's learn something interesting. Some basic Vedic Maths tricks - Dividing a large number by 5 You just need to follow two simple tricks. In the first step multiply the number by 2 while in the second step move the decimal point. For example: 235 / 5 =? Step 1. 235 * 2 = 470 Step 2. Move the decimal: 47.0 or just 47 Let’s try another: 2128 / 5 Step 1: 2128 * 2 = 4256 Step2: Move the decimal: 425.6 or just 425 - Convert kilograms to pounds quickly. If you want to convert kilograms to pounds, you can do it in your head in a few seconds. Let take an example: Convert 112 Kg to pound. Step 1. Multiply Kg value by 2 112 * 2 = 224 Step 2. Divide the previous one by 10 224/10 = 22.4 Step 3. Add both the number 224 + 22.4 = 246.4 pounds. Hence the answer is 246.4 pounds

- Square of a number whose last digit is 5

First, multiply the 1st digit on the left-hand side with 1 and then, write 25 at the end.

For example: (75) ² =?

Step 1: 75 x 75 = …….25 (at the end)

Step 2: 7 x (7+1) = 7 x 8 = 56

- How to calculate the square of any number

Calculating squares can be very easy if you are doing it using Vedic maths.

Step 1. Choose a base nearer to the no. whose sq. is to be found.

Step 2. Find the difference of the no. from its base.

Step 3. Add the difference with the no.

Step 4. Multiply the result with the base.

Step 5. Add the product of the sq. of the difference with the result of the above point.

For example : (88) ² =?

Step 1. Choose 100 as base

Step 2. Difference =88-100 = -12

Step 3. Number + difference = 88 + (-12) = 76

Step 4. Multiplying result with base = 76*100 = 7600

Step 5. Adding result with square of difference= 7600 + (-12)² = 7744
